Currently, I am still in the same place as my last update. I will be contacting the graduate students in the geology department and I hope to set a time up for lab orientation later this week. I am also meeting my mentor tomorrow, if our schedule still holds. I will hopefully obtain the crystal samples tomorrow. They are not the real samples, but they are similar to the ones we will actually be using for research purposes.
I have to say, there are quite a few highlights of working with a faculty mentor. I have been given constant guidance throughout my project so far and it has been great working with someone who knows the field. In addition to AFM knowledge, it’s been a real highlight to work with Dr. Thompson as she also has knowledge on SEM imaging – which I will certainly find invaluable this semester as I continue to work on my project and prepare for Research and Artistry Day.
